    Rene Delaney

Rene was born in Woola Downs, Northern Territory, in about 1948, and was schooled at Ross Park Primary in Alice Springs. She now lives in the Central Desert. She is a self taught artist, has been painting since 1988.

There is a rich artistic tradition that runs in Rene’s family and she is related to many well respected artists. Her mother is sister to the father of Gloria Petyarre, a very well known artist. She is also sister to the late Emily Kngwarreye from Utopia, who has achieved national and international recognition.

Her subject matter involves spinifex and body painting. This painting depicts the topography of her region, and also represents the body painting which is used in important women’s ceremonies to represent spinifex. Margaret often paints using an array of colours, and her work is sought after.
