A native Western Australian, part Aboriginal and part Dutch Hawaiian, Glaskin is not only a tribal oceanic artist but also a storyteller and environmentalist. His primary means of expressing is painting, but he also sculpts.

He has traveled extensively seeking the connections between people past and present through water. Glaskin believes that water is the common bond between modern and ancient people. This intense relationship with water is evident with Derek's other passion, surfing.

We are proud to have on hand a number of Derek's works revolving around his love of water and the surf.

Inspiration for Derek's work comes from his love of the ocean, the bush and his mixed heritage of Australian Aboriginal and Hawaiian.

Glaskin's artwork first gained notoriety in the early 1970s. He began designing artwork for the fledgling Billabong Surf Company. Glaskin said that the merging of aboriginal artwork and surfing was ideal because of the spirituality of surfing. Derek was exposed to great artwork as a boy. His grandparents were involved in international shipping which gave them access to cultures and artwork around the world.
