They just don't make 'em like this anymore... darkly brooding with high harmonics and a soft, warm horn toot. This is a collector's piece featuring handsome artwork with a motif of two dancing Mimi Spirit figure and kangaroo rendered in the x-ray style –– a fine example of traditional Aboriginal art from Arnhem Land . Craggy, natural bore with nice BIG 4" bell on the bottom end.
The maker and painter of this HIGH QUALITY didgeridoo, Eddie Blitner, was born in 1961 and grew up in the aboriginal communities of Naiyarlindji and Ngukkurr on the Roper River southeast of Katherine in Australia's Northern Territory. Many good painters have emerged from that community and are represented in most major Australian collections as well as overseas. It's taken Eddie many years to learn to paint the stories and Dreamings passed on to him by his grandfather. This handsome didgeridoo, circa 2003, was acquired from a fellow didgeridoo importer and has never been privately owned or played regularly. The timber is well age-seasoned with no signs of wear or repair.
The interior bore is clear which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. The bell end has been expertly chiseled out by Eddie beyond what the termites had eaten, which really opens up the sound even further. Natural mouthpiece sanitized withDidgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). No beeswax needed.
Soundwise: High Quality Pitched in perfect C# which is deep yet still very malleable riddim-wise. The craggy natural bore offers up vocals that are strong and clear, and the balance leans toward the midrange frequencies making animal calls and BRIGHT HARMONICS articulate with good projection. It has moderate to loud volume so you won't scare the cat, and it responds well to any tempo so play it fast or slow depending upon your mood or what moves you.
This instrument is bound to uptick in value in the coming years, especially as the didgeridoo playing segment of the U.S. population becomes more aware of fine quality didgeridoos like this one and want their own connection to appreciate and preserve a shrinking supply of authentic vintage instruments. It's unknown how many more instruments like this one will appear for sale over the coming years, but it's safe to say that there won't be very many. And remember, this particular one has never been owned privately or played regularly –– such a find. Optimal strong backpressure for its size and pitch (making the circular breathing technique easier). Fine instruments of this ilk only come around every so often, so if you've been dreaming of owning a serious, well seasoned didgeridoo then take it away quickly or it'll be gone.
