Performance Quality Yidaki from Australia

Hardy didgeridoo

Will Thoren didgeridooThe red dot on the map of Australia at left shows you where this yidaki comes from. Mirrwatnga is a talented young yidaki maker and player who lives at Dhalinybuy in Northeast Arnhem Land. Mirrwatnga has grown up under the strong leadership of his father Bawurr Munyarryun and has followed direction from his elder brother Djakapurra, who is well known for his dancing and yidaki playing. Commonly called 'bambu man' amongst his peers, Mirrwatnga is known as the ceremonial yidaki player for the Wangurri clan. He is frequently asked to play at ceremony locally in the Yirrkala area, and also often travels to Galiwin'ku and Milingimbi to participate in ceremony.
This exquisite yidaki was both crafted and painted by Mirrwatnga. The artwork features a white heron bird, along with aboriginal symbols that represent the rugged country where Mirrwatnga lives. Painted with natural ochres (earth pigments). The bell or distal end is very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. Features a perfect natural mouthpiece that's been sanitized with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil).
Soundwise: Performance quality sound and playability. This exceptional instrument has recently arrived from Australia and just been placed on the website. I will write a description of the acoustics and responsiveness of this fine yidaki as soon as possible (unless it sells first).
