"Djarra Djandu"

Concert Quality Yidaki from Australia
|
|
Burrngupurrngu "Bruce" Wunungmurra

The red dot on the map of Australia at left shows you where this yidaki comes from. Burrngupurrngu (Dhalwangu aboriginal) is one of the foremost yidaki
makers and a senior lawman for
the Dhalwangu clan. Whilst
busy with ceremonial responsibilities
for months at a time, Burrngupurrngu
demands of himself a consistent
standard. He's well respected
amongst Yolngu communities for
his knowledge of yidaki making
and playing. Even as a young
man he was sought after to play
in ceremony. Watch the video below for a demo of this fine yidaki.

The
artwork represents
a Dhalwangu clan
design that is very significant
to his tribe. This is an "old
school" instrument in excellent
condition, much more collectable
than your average didgeridoo,
and we honor that by using the
proper Yolngu word for didgeridoo,
"yidaki", here. Painted with natural ochres (earth pigments). The bell or distal end is
very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of
tone. Features a perfect natural mouthpiece that's been sanitized
with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). |

Soundwise: Concert quality sound. This exceptional instrument recently arrived from Australia and has just been placed on the website. It offers hair-trigger response to
both tongued and diaphragmatic riddims.
Not for the weak of lips 'cause
this didgeridoo shreds! It's fast
and grungy with warm
acoustics and a drone that stays
bang-on without any wavering. Perfect
backpressure for its size and pitch
make the circular breathing technique easier. Loud and
powerful. Four horn toots, all warm
to the drone.
Perfect conical bore. Built to be played in the traditional hard tongue style. Perfect backpressure for its size
and pitch makes the circular
breathing technique easeful.

This highly collectable yidaki will be an outstanding addition to even the most robust didgeridoo
quiver (or to get one started)!
And besides the sound, the artwork features very fine cross-hatch lines that only Yolngu artists of high degree are allowed to paint. We suspect that it's not gonna last
long around here to be sure. Please
