"Egret Song"
Performance Quality Yidaki from Australia
|
|
Crafted by Dhapa Ganambarr

The red dot on the Australian map at left shows the region where this yidaki came from. Dhapa made this handsome instrument from a stringybark eucalyptus tree in Australia's north east Arnhem Land. The artwork features two egrets (water birds) painted right atop the natural wood grain. This is a TOP GRADE yidaki with a straight, clear, natural bore. Suitable for any player from the
beginner to advanced level. This "old
school" instrument is in excellent
condition, much more collectable
than your average didgeridoo,
and we honor that by using the
proper Yolngu word for didgeridoo,
"yidaki", here. Painted with natural ochres (earth pigments). The bell or distal end is
very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of
tone. Features a perfect natural mouthpiece that's been sanitized
with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil. |
Soundwise: Performance quality sound with
a traditional gruff acoustic.
Absolutely a KNOCKOUT in both sound and playability! There's loads
of bass to create a warm, inviting
sonic space, yet it won't overpower
your crisp tongued pops, tups and
twang. Vocal response is remarkable
in the high to midrange frequencies
(great for dingo howls and kookaburra
calls) with arresting guttural attacks
and shimmering harmonics to balance
out its acoustic qualities. The
first trumpet toot is warm to the
drone and the overblown note is
very stable making it easy to incorporate
into rhythms. Perfect backpressure
for its size and pitch (making the circular breathing technique
easier). Won't
last long around here at this price. Please
don't hesitate to contact us if
you have any questions or would
like a demo over the phone. 100%
