"Song for Galiwin'ku"

High Quality Yidaki from Australia
|
|
Badikupa Gurruwiwi (Gälpu aboriginal)

The red dot on the Australian map at left shows the region where this yidaki came from. Badikupa crafted and
painted this yidaki around 2001. He lives on a remote island at Galiwin'ku. He is Djalu's classificatory father. Badikupa says, "I make yidaki the old style. The miny'tji (cross hatching) refers to the thunderclouds that build during the wet season. The rows of dots refer to Wititj, the rainbow snake, where us Gälpu get our knowledge and power of yidaki from." This is an "old school" instrument in very good condition with no repairs, retouching or work/oiling done to the bore. Crafted from termite hollowed eucalyptus.
The bell or distal end is very clear which increases volume, harmonics,
and clarity of tone. Features a natural mouthpiece that's been sanitized
with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). No beeswax needed. |
Soundwise: High quality sound. The
drone is warm and dirty with gruff vocal response––a very traditional acoustic. Crisp and sensitive
in the midrange frequencies with
a bit of a metallic edge in the
high end. Very easy jump to the first
horn tone
and a good pitch bend (by dropping
your jaw a bit as you play). Three
easy horn toots bright against the
drone. Perfect backpressure for
its size and pitch which makes the circular breathing technique
easier. This is not a concert or performance quality instrument, thus the very agreeable price... So if you're looking for a rare piece that fits your budget then grab this one quick (most Badikupa's go for over $650 and up). Please don't hesitate to
ring us up if you want to hear it
or ask any questions. 100%
Satisfaction Guaranteed, no dramas. Order now or ring us straight away if you
see your name on it. |
