Didge
Project & Friends
at New Field Yoga in NYC
This
collaboration between some of New York's top meditative
instrumentalists explores how music and sound elevate
human consciousness. Didge
Project founders AJ Block, Tyler Sussman and Phil Schwartz
use the didgeridoo to bring awareness to the power
of vibrations in meditation and healing. Both Fabrizio
Brua (sitar) and David Freeman (tabla) have spent considerable
time studying their instruments in India, where music
is traditionally seen as a disciplined spiritual practice.
The combination of sounds from the didgeridoo and these
classical Indian instruments results in rich, powerful
textures which can awaken the spirit within.

Learn to Play Didgeridoo
for Meditation and Healing New York, NY
Join AJ Block and Tyler Sussman for a 4-class series designed to teach you to become proficient at playing one of the most spiritual wind instruments, the didgeridoo. Through the process of circular breathing and the focus that it brings to the breath, deep meditative states can be attained during practice of this primitive wind instrument. Having the vibration resonate throughout the body brings stability and grounding to the player and has recently been cited as an active treatment for sleep apnea. Additionally, playing the instrument for others can be used for many different types of healing. This class is for those who want to explore the power of sound and gain the skills necessary to play the didgeridoo.
Didge Project Workshop & Didge Meditation, New York, NY
Didge Project is a didge awareness movement started by AJ Block and Tyler Sussman. Listening to the didgeridoo, having it played around the body, and feeling its powerful vibrations can facilitate deep meditation and enhance energy flow. The didgeridoo is a spiritual wind instrument that can be played for music, meditation and peace of mind. In this workshop we will discuss how abrasive vibrations negatively affect the human body and how natural vibrations can be used to rejuvenate and heal. The discussion will be followed by an extended group didgeridoo meditation (approximately 45 minutes) in which participants set their intentions for entering this deep state of relaxation.

Mike Jackson
Live at L.A.Outback! Mike Jackson is arguably one of the most innovative and accomplished didgeridoo players in the world. His mastery of the instrument allows him to explore tone, texture and rhythm at speeds and in ways that are totally unique. To hear him play is to experience a connection to Australia's myriad untouched lands where the spirit and heart can still reside with a certain degree of peace. Mike is also an archeologist, and following his reception this evening he's presenting a digital slide show and talk about aboriginal rock art (more info).
During his 8:00 PM salon-style concert, Mike shares his love of wilderness and the indigenous people who once lived in these wild places through his music. He has a technical mastery of the instrument, which is second to none. Some of his pieces, especially the faster ones, will blow your socks off for they are so fast, yet perfectly structured, defying explanation or understanding. Even other didgeridoo players are at a loss as to how Mike plays the instrument with such precision. But didgeridoo playing isn't all about speed and Mike proves this with his masterful approach to harmony and melody which he explores using the Didjeribone, a variable pitch didgeridoo. By exploring overtones of the didgeridoo in a melodic and harmonious ways, Mike has composed profoundly beautiful, sensuous, and haunting soundscapes.
There will be an intermission between the digital slide show/talk and the concert. Australian wine, tea and light food fare will be served from the reception until the start of the concert. Enjoy great company, warm canyon breezes, a fascinating show of aboriginal rock art, and Mike's virtuoso didgeridoo riddims. Tjupurru Performing
Live in L.A. and N.Y.
Tjupurru is a proud descendant of the Djabera Djabera tribe of West Australia. His real love affair with the instrument came when he discovered the music of iconic Australian act Gondwanaland, and didj player Charlie McMahon in particular.
Tjupurru's live show is a must see, mixing culture and technology to serve up what he describes as 21st century Didjetronica. Here are the dates: April 24: KCRW 89.9 (L.A.) 11:00 AM

Upcoming
Performances Tjupurru plays a unique slide Didjeridu invented by Charlie McMahon, named "The Didjeribone" because it can slide through different notes and tones - a cross between a didj and a trombone. He picks up his sound through a device called the "Face Bass", a seismic sensor placed inside his mouth.
With the addition of sampling and electronic effects, Tjupurru has enabled himself to perform as a one man band creating live samples and looping them to create songs and soundscapes that crisscross musical genres.

TV show, a guy and gal are paired up and followed

on his date is actually a fine didgeridoo player already,
and he brought along a very big agave didgeridoo.
We jammed a bit while his date sang, we threw some
boomerangs on the beach and gave them a couple of
our T-shirts. It was a beautiful day at the beach
and they were a really hip couple who seemed to be

Healing
Circle with Australian Didgeridoo Player, Artist and
Storyteller Jeremy Donovan
Jeremy
Donovan, one of Australia's leading indigenous didgeridoo
players, will introduce you to the ancient traditions
of the Kuku-Yalanj people of northern Queensland.
"The ancient, traditional Yigi Yigi rhythms we
use in ceremony opens the low energy vibrations of
the body, while our traditional songs will open the
higher vibrations, sending us into a trance-like state,"
says Jeremy, "It's in this state that we have
the ability to reach our ancestral beings who provide
us with our dreamings. Some of this evening's rituals
are rituals my father's family have practiced for
at least 20,000 years, and continue to practice to
this day.
