John is a Board Certified Music Therapist with over 15 years experience creating and implementing programs using rhythm and percussion for rehabilitation, health maintenance, and life enhancement.

Stephen Kent
Live in Concert

In a musical journey that began in England in the late 1970's, composer, performer, and didgeridoo player Stephen Kent has blazed a trail across five continents, living at various times in the UK, Spain, Australia and the USA. His musical scores, composed for theatre, circus and dance companies have received international acclaim, and his work as a performer and recording artist has established him as a unique talent in the global music scene. Kent is considered a pioneer in bringing the ancient Aboriginal sound on the didgeridoo into a contemporary context.

On May 24th Beth Custer and Stephen Kent present a rare evening of clarinet and didjeridu compositions and improvisations. The founders of Trance Mission reunite to present an evening of fourth world ambient trance dance music after several years' hiatus. Internationally renowned Trance Mission recorded many critically acclaimed discs in the '90's for City of Tribes Records. This concert will be a return to the roots of that group's world music.

Didgeridoo Class

Learn all of the basic playing techniques including animal sounds, creating rhythms and circular breathing. This class is for all ages and it's heaps of fun. If you don't have a didgeridoo then you can borrow one from us, no worries. Length of class is about 1 hour. All ages welcome, in fact, bring along all your family and friends! A happy pup named "Dingo" will greet you at the door. Stay for a bit after the class and check out all the new didgeridoos and gear.

Mike Jackson
Live at L.A.Outback!

Mike Jackson is arguably one of the most innovative and accomplished didgeridoo players in the world. His mastery of the instrument allows him to explore tone, texture and rhythm at speeds and in ways that are totally unique. To hear him play is to experience a connection to Australia's myriad untouched lands where the spirit and heart can still reside with a certain degree of peace. Mike is also an archeologist, and following his reception this evening he's presenting a digital slide show and talk about aboriginal rock art (more info).

During his 8:00 PM salon-style concert, Mike shares his love of wilderness and the indigenous people who once lived in these wild places through his music. He has a technical mastery of the instrument, which is second to none. Some of his pieces, especially the faster ones, will blow your socks off for they are so fast, yet perfectly structured, defying explanation or understanding. Even other didgeridoo players are at a loss as to how Mike plays the instrument with such precision. But didgeridoo playing isn't all about speed and Mike proves this with his masterful approach to harmony and melody which he explores using the Didjeribone, a variable pitch didgeridoo. By exploring overtones of the didgeridoo in a melodic and harmonious ways, Mike has composed profoundly beautiful, sensuous, and haunting soundscapes.

There will be an intermission between the digital slide show/talk and the concert. Australian wine, tea and light food fare will be served from the reception until the start of the concert. Enjoy great company, warm canyon breezes, a fascinating show of aboriginal rock art, and Mike's virtuoso didgeridoo riddims. You are all invited to attend the 2008 Colorado World Music Gathering held near Dacono. This year’s event will be a one day outing. All are welcomed, from the curious to the beginner to the professional. At this year’s gathering we are including the didgeridoo, ethnic flute and drum, tribal & fire dance communities. One point of reference will reduce confusion, increase my response time and prevent info from getting lost.

In-Didj-In-Us Gathering

A 3-day campout with workshops, jams, performances, crafting, vending, sharing, and as much fun as you can shake your stick at. Hosted on private land. Totally free. Vegetarian meals provided. Attendance is limited to about 300 people, so reservations are accepted and appreciated. No booze and no dogs help keep the vibe safe and mellow. Totally volunteer and donation supported so bring your own ideas, props, towels, toys, camping gear, instruments, etc.

Didgeridoo vibrational therapy with Pablo Cunquiero

Pablo recently moved to Los Angeles from Sydney, Australia (via Argentina). He uses Sound Massage, Reiki and Meditation for therapeutic treatments. The earthy, organic sounds of the Aboriginal Didgeridoo and the vibrational healing properties of the Australian Bush Flower Essences compliment his Reiki training that he received on a pilgrimage to India. “I want to bring to the other side of the world the clear and unpolluted energy and vibrations that exist in Australia, and what better healing tools to do that than using the natural resources of the land” says Pablo. He is available for private sessions and small groups.
