Vintage, Concert Quality Yidaki
Crafted by Frank ThillWatch a VIDEO demo of this didgeridoo below!
In the didgeridoo community at large only a few names have become synonymous with expertly crafted yidaki, and one of them (Frank) is not aboriginal. Frank Thill worked with Djalu Gurruwiwi and his family for quite a while in Australia's NE Arnhem Land, learning traditional crafting techniques from the master himself. Upon moving to Darwin around 2001, Frank's reputation for making exceedingly fine yidaki had begun to swell around the world. With Djalu's blessing, Frank crafted some of the most highly sought-after instruments to be found. Then, in a matter of just a few years (following the birth of his daughter) Frank shifted gears, moved his family to South Australia, and pursued an entirely new career. So the number of instruments Frank made are quite limited as compared to those by crafters still working today. And that makes a fine yidaki by Frank Thill even more rare and desirable among players and collectors.
This yidaki was acquired from a private collection and is in very fine condition. It is beautifully painted by Djalu's sister, Dhangal Gurruwiwi. What a showpiece!!! This GORGEOUS, RESONANT, CONCERT QUALITY yidaki was crafted from well seasoned stringybark eucalyptus. It sports a BIG 7" bell on the bottom end, and wait until you hear this DEADLY SOUNDING YIDAKI! The conical bore is very clear which increases
volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. A semi-gloss finish protects the wood and artwork from the elements. The inside was originally treated with tung oil and has now age seasoned beautifully and without any cracks whatsoever. Fitted with an organic beeswax mouthpiece that's been sanitized with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). The mouthpiece can easily be adjusted to fit you perfectly. Instructions included, no worries.
 Soundwise: Concert Quality
This spectacular yidaki delivers a VERY LOUD and BRILLIANT voice pitched in D# that's nearly effortless to manipulate. The conical bore and medium-thin walls makes this yidaki SUPER RESONANT with perfectly balanced acoustics, BIG PHAT BASS frequencies and highly articulate vocals. Everyone and everything in the room vibrates when you play this yidaki! Dense, shape-shifting harmonic overtones and hot but sweet midrange sonics. Four easy horn toots, all warm against the drone. Optimal strong backpressure for its size and pitch make for easier circular breathing. This is an heirloom quality artifact and a highly collectable instrument. Excellent value for its sound quality, age-seasoned timber, and provenance. Likely to sell quickly so please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
