What a find, and the price is more than fair for such a fine yidaki! Malalakpuy Munyarryun is one of the talented and hardworking Munyarryun brothers who live at Dhalinybuy. Among them are Gurraramawuy,
Malalakpuy Munyarryun
Buwathay, Memawuy, Mirrwatnga and Djakapurra. This young man emerged into the art world in 1999 as he was entrusted with the right to paint sacred Wangurri imagery and lead Wangurri ritual song by clan elders, Mathulu and Bawurr. Since this time he has produced a quantity of works that show a high calibre of painting skill.
Malalakpuy (pictured at right) is also known for making excellent yidaki, often working in partnership with his brother Bandamul. His yidaki are painted with sacred Wangurri clan designs.

Acquired from the Ben Hicks collection (circa 2002) this yidaki is in very good condition with only a few very slightly worn areas. Crafted from termite hollowed stringybark eucalyptus. The interior bore is very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. Natural mouthpiece sanitized with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil).
Soundwise: Concert Quality

The sonic is gruff and dirty––a traditional acoustic. VERY LOUD and POWERFUL! The first trumpet toot is super stable making it easy to incorporate into rhythms. This didgeridoo responds quickly to the slightest pressure changes and offers up tongued riddims with ease. Ben Hicks says of this yidaki, "I bought this in Sydney in 2002, with a Yirrkala/Buku Larrngay tag on it. A stick that has taught me much over the years! Slightly demanding/rewarding of good trad technique with blunt response, the pay off as you develop stronger technique is solid, direct, complex, edgy, trad tonality/response, and the sound is close to one of the instruments Larry Gurruwiwi plays on "Djalu teaches yidaki" master's series CD." This vintage instrument will be an outstanding addition to even the most robust yidaki quiver (or to get one started)! We suspect that it's not gonna last long around here very long. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Read our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Includes Certificate of Authenticity, care guide and playing guide.
