Concert Quality Yidaki
Crafted by Buwathay Munyarryun Watch a VIDEO demo of this didgeridoo below! Hand selected for us by Jeremy Cloak , this very fine CONCERT QUALITY yidaki by Buwathay Munyarryun has just arrived from Yirrkala in Australia's N.E. Arnhem Land region. Jeremy says, " Buwathay rarely makes Yidaki, but when he does they are always top quality instruments." Buwathay (pictured at right) is also known as Munandjiwuy. Father is Gadal'miny (Mathulu). A senior elder of this clan who occupies the Mutamul outstation. He is a Uniting Church minister. He also spends time at Dhalinybuy. Buwathay is an important lawman for the Wangurri clan. He spends most of his time involved with ceremony at Galiwin’ku and Dhalinybuy and occassionaly makes yidaki. He is not a prolific artist but his works are of serious integrity and more than often exceptionally good. The artwork depicts a garma (brackish water) and squid motif. The paint used was hand made from natural earth pigments and gypsum clay. See the close-up photo at left and click on the thumbnails above for a better look. This is an "old school" instrument, much more collectable than your average didgeridoo, and we honor that by using the proper Yolngu word for didgeridoo, "yidaki", here. A treasure for its sound, size, condition, well seasoned timber and provenance. The interior bore is very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. The natural mouthpiece is comfortable and will be delivered to you sanitized with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil).Soundwise: Concert Quality Excellent backpressure with coarse, somewhat dirty acoustics and crisp edges. Excellent response to pressure changes, mouth shapes and vocal accents. Excellent volume. Smooth transition from drone to horn toot. Good bass frequencies. Optimal strong backpressure for its size and pitch make the circular breathing
technique easeful. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any
