Arnhem Land Eucalyptus MagoCrafted by Solomon Weston
Watch a VIDEO demo of this didgeridoo below!

This is a very rare mago pitched in the low, deep drone between B and C. Not only is this unusual for most mago in general, but this instrument achieves its low note without being long (it's 54.5" which is average for a mago). Acquired from a private collection (circa 1997) this mago by Solomon Weston is in very good condition with a hauntingly gruff drone. The artwork is rendered entirely in natural ochres (earth pigments) featuring a bush yam and file snake motif. Crafted from termite hollowed yellow box eucalyptus and honed by a draw knife with no electric tools used on it. There's only a bit of normal wear for its age, but no bad scratches. Not even a single crack can be found anywhere, even at the bottom (distal) end. This is an "old school" instrument, much more collectable than your average didgeridoo, and we honor that by using the regional word for didgeridoo, "mago", here. Very desirable for its artwork, well seasoned timber, and provenance.

Solomon was a member of the White Cockatoo aboriginal performing group back in the time that he made this mago. He toured with the group to California in 2000 and all of the fellas stayed with us for two weeks whilst performing at various gigs out here. I remember that Solomon and Crusoe Kurddal walked to the local supermarket down the street from my house and when a store clerk told them they couldn't come inside barefoot Solomon just looked at her and said, "But we're aborigines from Australia." She let them in. I also recall the fellas believing that the jackrabbits in my neighborhood were baby kangaroos. Needless to say, I have very fond memories of spending time with Solomon and his mob.

The interior bore of this mago is very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone.
Fitted with an organic beeswax mouthpiece sanitized with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). The mouthpiece can easily be adjusted to fit you perfectly. Instructions included, no worries.

Soundwise: Concert Quality

This old mago is a traditional instrument made the traditional way with a gruff, warm tonality. Hauntingly low pitch between B and C. Somewhat dirty acoustics for the player wanting a more raw, edgy sound. With a bit of push there's power in this mago! The instrument has a clear, natural bore throughout. It offers good compression which produces a smooth drone. When played contemporary style it generates articulate vocal response for far-off dingo howls, kookaburra calls, and otherworldly echoes. Optimal strong backpressure which is good for its size and pitch making the circular breathing technique easier. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
