The maker and painter of this didgeridoo, Sammy Assan, was born in 1965 and grew up in Mt. Isa with the Kalkadoon and Doomagee people. He can remember hearing the stories told by the elders of these tribes with fond memories. Sam moved to Katherine in 1982 and became involved with the Jawyon and Wadaman people learning about their country and listening to their stories. He inspired these people to tell their stories by painting them onto canvas. Sam himself enjoys painting on canvas, carving, and making and painting didgeridoos. This handsome didgeridoo, circa 2003, was acquired from a fellow didgeridoo importer and has never been privately owned or played regularly. The timber is well age-seasoned with no signs of repair ever needed. It shows just a small bit of wear, but certainly nothing of note in my opinion. It has a 3.5" bell on the bottom end.

This is a collector's piece featuring handsome artwork with a freshwater fish and water lily motif –– a fine example of traditional Aboriginal art from Arnhem Land. The interior bore is clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. The bell end has been expertly chiseled clean by Sammy beyond what the termites had eaten, which really opens up the sound even further. Fitted with an organic beeswax mouthpiece sanitized with
Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). The mouthpiece can easily be adjusted to fit you perfectly. Instructions included, no worries.

Soundwise: Concert Quality

Concert quality sound and playability for only $268? GRAB IT QUICK! Absolutely perfect for a beginner that wants a higher pitch. The drone is F (heart chakra). It's both relaxing and intuitive to play so you'll get the best out of it straight away. Malleable tone colors and harmonics. High frequency insectile buzzes and whip-snapping response to tongued and diaphragmatic riddims. Three easy horn tones that are warm against the drone and always ready to toot. This one is easy and fun to play with a sensational, reverberant air about it. The well seasoned timber and completely natural bore deliver a radiant tone with very well balanced acoustics. It generates articulate vocal clarity for awesome dingo howls, kookaburra calls, and otherworldly echoes.

This instrument is bound to uptick in value in the coming years, especially as a huge segment of the U.S. population is becoming aware of finer quality didgeridoos and want their own connection to appreciate and preserve a shrinking supply of authentic vintage instruments. It's unknown how many more instruments like this one will appear for sale over the coming years, but it's safe to say that there won't be very many. And remember, this particular one has never been owned privately or played regularly –– such a find. Optimal strong backpressure for its size and pitch (making the circular breathing technique easier). Fine instruments of this ilk only come around every so often, so if you've been dreaming of owning a serious, well seasoned didgeridoo then take it away quickly or it'll be gone.
