Concert Quality Vintage Mago
Crafted by Horace MunmilliWatch a VIDEO demo of this didgeridoo below!
This old, RARE and COLLECTABLE instrument by Horace Munmilli,
circa 1981, was just acquired from a private collection. This is only
the second vintage mago by Horace that we've had on offer in several
years. It has been well cared for and shows no sign of damage, repair, or instability of the timber.
The asking price on this one is more than reasonable for an instrument
of this ilk. This is the kind of old mago that you may find on offer
elsewhere for twice the price.Soundwise: Concert Quality
Horace is from the Ja-Bena area in Australia's Northern Territory, part of the Rembarrnga language group. Painted with natural ochres (earth pigments). The painting represents dharpa burra,
the scrubby country of his homeland, depicting a freshwater fish and
water lily. See the close-up photos at left for a better look. An art
fixative, like that used on charcoal and pastel paintings, protects the
artwork from smearing or running if the instrument gets wet.
This mago was crafted from termite hollowed yellow box eucalyptus. I've
considered keeping this one in the L.A.Outback collection, but I kept a
similar one by Ambrose Cameron recently so I've decided to let someone
else out there have a go at this one. Truly old school, and instruments
like these are getting harder to find, only surfacing when a collector
decides to let one find a new home.
for any player from the beginner to advanced level. The bore is very
clear which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of tone. Fitted with an organic beeswax
mouthpiece sanitized with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). The mouthpiece can easily be adjusted to fit you perfectly. Instructions included, no worries.
old, collectable mago is easeful and enjoyable to play. It's fairly
compact for a D# and also light in weight, making it easy to carry
around from drum circles to jam sessions with friends. And for those
intrepid sonic scoundrels out there, check this out; you can easily drop the pitch from D# to low B
on this mago. I always check the pitch-bendiness of every didgeridoo
before I list it, but this one blew me away when it dropped all the way
to low B. This is an acoustic phenomena that very few instruments
deliver on, so if you want to add some drama to your riddims this one's
got the sonic bling.
mago is fairly loud yet manageable with a sonic presence that's hot but
also sweet. Built to be played in the gutteral WAL (Western Arnhem
Land) style, but you'll like playing faster contemporary riddims on it
as well. Dense, shape-shifting harmonic flame and tone colors that
create unique sonic travelogues through mind and place. Excellent
midrange acoustics for crisp tongued pops, tups and spicy tongued twang.
Vocal response is very good. It has three easy horn toots and optimal strong backpressure which makes the circular breathing
technique easeful. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any
